Summary/Abstract

This study provides policymakers with fundamental actions, key enablers, and opportunities for helping California meet its near-term emissions reduction goals with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The analysis builds on previous work, including the Energy Futures Initiative’s (EFI) 2019 report Optionality, Flexibility, and Innovation: Pathways for Deep Decarbonization in California, which concluded that the targeted use of CCS could be one of the largest single contributors to California’s decarbonization by 2030, and contribute to deep decarbonization by midcentury as well.
