Summary/Abstract

This chapter, from the book Managing Climate Change Business Risks and Consequences: Leadership for Global Sustainability, examines the risks and liabilities associated with carbon capture and storage and builds on legacy legal arrangements for liability management. The chapter identifies how collective industry experience from subsurface storage of petroleum and natural gas provides some guidance for carbon dioxide (CO2) storage projects, and that incipient sequestration efforts can give us guidance on the range of procedures that need to be managed.
