Summary/Abstract

Modeling suggests that negative emissions will most likely be necessary for keeping climate change this century within the Paris Agreement’s 2C limits. Beyond technical feasibility, the rapid deployment of negative-emissions technologies (NETs) presents practical, economic, socio-political, and ethical challenges. This commentary asks: Which of these presents the greatest barrier to the deployment of Paris-compatible NETs?
