Summary/Abstract

This chapter, from the publication Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies 7,  focuses on a public perception study that analyzes the acceptance, policy, and regulatory issues related to CCS in the Netherlands. At the time this chapter was written, the legal framework for CCS in the Netherlands was developing with a big step taken by the coming into force of a Mining Act, allowing storage of CO2 below ground under conditions for safety and environmental impacts. The chapter identifies the policy incentives that existed for CCS at the time, including the European Union Emissions Trading System, Joint Implementation, and an electricity subsidy for a Zero Emission Power Plant.
