Summary/Abstract
The Global CCS Institute’s 2018 CCS Legal and Regulatory Indicator (the CCS-LRI) offers a detailed examination and assessment of national legal and regulatory frameworks in 55 countries and examines a range of legal and regulatory factors likely to be critical for the regulation of the technology. The CCS-LRI focuses upon a broad spectrum of administrative and permitting arrangements across the project lifecycle, including issues related to environmental assessments, public consultation and long-term liability. The resulting Indicator offers a model to track progress and opportunities to develop CCS-specific legal frameworks worldwide, as well as a perspective of the current status of CCS law and regulation.
