Summary/Abstract
This paper provides an examination of a number of key existing legal and regulatory aspects with regard to CCS. Rather than focusing on general climate change regulations, the paper targets project-specific regulation and legislation in Europe, Australia and North America that covers property rights, the permitting process, financial assurances, and long-term liability related to CO2 storage. It concludes that actions towards the construction of a workable set of regulations should be prioritized now in order to pave the way for the efficient global implementation of CCS once climate policy moves forward.
