Summary/Abstract
This article explores the role of industry in enabling Australia to move toward a less carbon intensive economy, with a closer look at industry’s role in carbon capture and storage, afforestation and reforestation, and biochar technologies. The article examines how technological innovation and the adoption of appropriate adaptive strategies will ensure that the country’s economy is firmly on the path to a sustainable future. The article identifies that the role of industry in the implementation of the above policy direction is essential. Apart from being the primary drivers of economic development, corporations have the financial and technological resources, as well as the institutional capacity, to implement policy options identified by government. The success of government policy options depends on the cooperation of industry and its quick response to government policy direction. Industry can facilitate the proposed government policy shift by ensuring that a skilled work force is available to support the required technological change.
