Summary/Abstract

This Roadmap explores the challenge of industrial heat decarbonizati􏰀on. It is intended to be an initial􏰀, “1.0” analysis of the topic. The report discusses four technological approaches for providing low-carbon industrial heat: hydrogen, biomass, electrification􏰀 and CCUS. It examines decarbonizing heat production in the cement, iron and steel, and chemical industries. The report then provides policy options, an innovation􏰀 agenda, and presents a series of recommendations.

This roadmap was prepared to facilitate dialogue at the Sixth Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (Tokyo October 2019), for final release at COP-25 (Madrid December 2019).
