Summary/Abstract
This IPCC report identifies the restoration of coastal blue carbon ecosystems as a response option to mitigate climate change through increased carbon uptake and storage. Restoration of vegetated coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, tidal marshes and seagrass meadows could provide climate change mitigation through increased carbon uptake and storage of around 0.5% of current global emissions annually. Improving the quantification of carbon storage and greenhouse gas fluxes of these coastal ecosystems will reduce current uncertainties around measurement, reporting and verification
