Summary/Abstract
This book explores the role of bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) in climate governance. It brings together a broad range of policy-relevant perspectives on negative emissions and, in particular, on BECCS: global modeling, climate diplomats’ views, European and national climate policymaking, and early attempts at using carbon dioxide removal approaches in urban district heating systems. The book maps existing policy incentives for BECCS, explores the existing governance system, and illustrates how UN and Swedish climate policy objectives have indeed influenced companies to get involved in planning for negative emissions while the lack of policy incentives has also put “sticks in the wheel” when it comes to affirmative investment decisions.
