Summary/Abstract

This “Assessment Framework for Scientific Research Involving Ocean Fertilization” is designed for Contracting Parties to evaluate proposed activities that fall within the scope of Resolution LC-LP.1(2008). Ocean fertilization is defined as any activity undertaken by humans with the principal intention of stimulating primary productivity in the oceans. This Framework provides a tool for assessing proposed activities on a case-by-case basis to determine if the proposed activity constitutes legitimate scientific research that is not contrary to the aims of the London Convention or Protocol.
